Melbourne, Australia: November 30, 2010: M2M Connectivity has launched the RC1140-KNX1 module from Radiocrafts AS designed for home and building automation systems. This module complies with the KNX-RF (Konnex over RF) specification. The KNX is the only open international standard for Home and Building Control, used in Smart Home, Building Automation and Building Management Systems.
The new compact RC1140-KNX1 uses the wireless KNX protocol as defined by the KNX Association. The embedded protocol supports KNX-RF 1.1 and KNX Ready, and can be used for unidirectional and bidirectional devices and in battery operated systems. It conforms to EN 50090 (ISO/IEC 14543-3). With interest for building control systems increasing, the RC1140-KNX1 module meets the demands for energy saving technology. Studies have shown up to 50% energy savings using KNX technology.
Radiocrafts KNX product series provide an easy transition to Konnex from compatible products. Inter-operation between Wireless M-Bus and KNX-RF is also possible using the RC1140-KNX-1. The module operates in the 433 MHz band, using Listen Before Talk (LBT) to reduce collisions. One receiver can be linked with up to 64 transmitters, enabling very large RF networks. It can be used with S, A and E modes of installation. The RC1140-KNX1 module also features automatic battery supervision and signal strength information. The KNX1 is the first feature set in a family of Radiocrafts KNX products that will also include RF repeaters and media couplers.
Measuring only 12.7 x 25.4 x 3.3 mm, the RC1140-KNX1 is a surface-mounted high performance transceiver module that can easily be integrated into any sensor or actuator. A UART interface is used for serial communication and configuration and an antenna connects directly to the RF pin.
“By launching the compact KNX-RF module in the market, we have again demonstrated our technological leadership in embedded wireless solutions. KNX-RF is a green technology, enabling smart building automation systems that help to reduce energy consumption. Together with Wireless M-Bus, the standard for remote energy meter reading, these are technologies promising a better future”, says Peder Martin Evjen, Managing Director.
“The trend in building automation is to go wireless due to lower installation cost, ease of use and flexibility. Building equipment manufacturers and building management system integrators can now get a complete KNX-RF solution in a small compact module form-factor that is easy to integrate into any sensor or actuator, and which significantly reduce time-to-market, development and compliance testing cost”, says Tom Sjølie, Sales and Marketing Director.
The KNX protocol is also available as an IESM board to fit a Sierra Wireless Fastrack Xtend and turn this GSM or 3G modem into a wireless into a KNX gateway.
