M2M Connectivity introduces the Sierra Wireless AirPrime MC8801, the first module to support Telstra’s dual-channel 42 Mbps HSPA+ network

Melbourne, Australia - September 7, 2010: M2M Connectivity introduces the new Sierra Wireless AirPrime™ MC8801 intelligent embedded module which supports Telstra’s dual-channel HSPA+ network in Australia.

Dual-channel HSPA+ doubles the speeds of current HSPA+ networks from a peak downlink of 21 megabits per second (Mbps) to 42 Mbps, at the same time improving network efficiency and providing a better experience for customers with more consistent network performance.

The Sierra Wireless AirPrime MC8801 is ideally suited todevelopers incorporating high speed wireless connectivity into a variety of devices, including high speed video streaming, security, consumer broadband,enterprise-class routers, and embedded computing applications.

The Sierra Wireless AirPrime MC8801 embedded module supports HSPA+ Dual Channel networks and peak network downlink speeds of 42 Mbps.  The MC8801 intelligent embedded module is the first dual carrier module from Sierra Wireless and is built to the PCI Express Mini Card form factor.  The MC8801 also provides UMTS/HSPA and quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE network access to enable roaming on high-speed networks around the world. The MC8801 module includes support for GPS, which was missing from the HSPA+ MC8700.

Samples of the AirPrime MC8801 are now available to customers for testing, with commercial shipments expected in fourth quarter this year.
