February 24, 2011 - connectBlue Solves Seamless Roaming with Standard Access Points
Industrial wireless solution provider connectBlue now has a solution that maintains the signal quality on an existing wireless connection when the scanning for a new network is initiated. For instance, as a device in motion is moving from one access point to another. The seamless handover is achieved by using two or more of the latest connectBlue Wireless LAN Ethernet Port Adapters on each cooperating device in motion.
In the typical situation, a client keeps the wireless connection with an access point until the radio signal gets too weak and the client has to initialize the scan for a new access point that can offer a better radio signal. This handover phase can take anything from 100 milliseconds to several seconds before the communication is up and running again.
“Such a long handover phase is unacceptable in tough applications where the connection has to be stable, reliable and uninterrupted,” explains Rolf Nilsson, CEO of connectBlue. “By instead using the connectBlue solution, the customer achieves reliable roaming and there is neither need for changes in the access points nor any special firmware.”
By using two or more of the connectBlue clients on each cooperating device in motion, the seamless handover is made possible. Seamless roaming and redundancy is integrated as a standard feature in the latest release of the connectBlue Wireless LAN Ethernet Port AdapterThe rugged Ethernet Port Adapters from connectBlue are well suited for industrial applications where the Ethernet cable needs to be replaced with a robust wireless connection. Thanks to its ease of use and cost efficient installation and configuration, the product lowers the installation costs in demanding applications.
Products from connectBlue where this seamless roaming applies include the connectBlue Rugged Wireless LAN Ethernet Port Adapters (Models RWE231i / RWE241i) and the Rugged Wireless LAN Ethernet Port Adapter (Model cB- RWEPAgi)
The products support the requested security access, and are radio type approved for Europe, US and Canada (R&TTE, FCC, IC).
